  • EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

    INBOUND MOBILITY

    A credit transfer programme where students study in USM for one or two semesters. Required courses enrollment are from 9 to 21 credit units. USM-IO will provide you with a lot of fun activities during your exchange program in USM.

    OUTBOUND MOBILITY

    1. What is Study Abroad / Exchange Programme?
    Student Exchange / Study Abroad Programme will allow you to spend one or two semesters at universities abroad and take courses in a regular semester with a credit transfer opportunity. Students are encouraged to study at USM’s partner universities to all over the world.

    2. What are differences between Study Abroad and Student Exchange Programme?

    Most students who choose to undertake a Student Exchange Programme will do so on an exchange-basis, i.e. students study overseas at one of USM’s many partner universities for one or two semesters. There is also the option of Study Abroad-basis, meaning students study overseas at a non-partner university of their choice. In most cases, students who participated in the Student Exchange Programme will only pay tuition fees of Home University whereas for the Study Abroad Programme, students must pay tuition fees at Home and Host Universities.

  • INTERNSHIP

    INBOUND MOBILITY

    Research attachment programmes can be performed at one of our high end and cutting edge laboratories or facilities at USM to enhance research skills and in-depth understanding of research areas. The programme will be supervised by an expert in the field at our Schools/Centres and is more suitable for postgraduate undergoing research study at their home countries.

    OUTBOUND MOBILITY

    Internship gives opportunity for students to experience global working environment at prestigious industry abroad. Students can be attached either in a company or at our partner universities for up to 12 months. GAP YEAR Programme is a one of many initiatives for USM students to search for your interest in the field of studies or to serve for the community.

  • RESEARCH ATTACHMENT

    INBOUND MOBILITY

    Research attachment programmes can be performed at one of our high end and cutting edge laboratories or facilities at USM to enhance research skills and in-depth understanding of research areas. The programme will be supervised by an expert in the field at our Schools/Centres and is more suitable for postgraduate undergoing research study at their home countries.

    OUTBOUND MOBILITY

    Under the Research Attachment Programme, students are able to conduct research projects abroad. Students are required to contact potential supervisors at USM’s partner universities themselves. Kindly discuss your research plans with your USM supervisor and submit research proposal to the host university. IO will nominate you once acceptance letter is issued by the host university. Students can experience different research environment at USM’s esteem partner universities for up to 12 months.

  • SHORT TERM/SUMMER PROGRAMME

    INBOUND MOBILITY

    The short-term programme is tailor-made to cater the needs of our partner universities for mobility events in a short period of time. Under this programme, USM International Office can plan a credit transfer programme or non credit programme to suit your interests.

We offer you an exciting credit transfer Summer Programme at USM that suits brimming with cultural activities that will allow you to explore Malaysia in all its diverse beauty.     OUTBOUND MOBILITY

    Two types of short-term / Summer Programme which are:

    1. Tailormade Short-term Programme

    Tailor made Short-term Programme is a programme designed according to your or School requirements. Normally School representatives will discuss on the components in the Short-term Programme such as academic, culture, trips, etc. Students normally participated in this programme from 1 to 4 weeks in duration.

    3. Fixed Summer Programme

    As for the Fixed Summer Programme, USM students participated in a standard/existing programme offered by partner universities. Both tailor made and fixed programme available with credit or non-credit which you can transfer it back to USM.

  • The USM Student Buddies aims to make a lifelong friendship with International Students and bring them towards the student life in Malaysia and also, venture around Malaysia through various kind of activities. The Buddies will ensure and assist international students in acclimatising to their new environment and surrounding. They aim to motivate and assist international students to build a cohesive university culture whilst being USM’s ambassador. They encourage interaction and exchanges of opinion between international students and local students in order to help build and expand social networks that transcend borders, countries and continents.

    WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MOBILITY PROGRAMMES?

    There are 4 types of mobility programmes, namely,

    • Study Abroad Programme
    • Research Attachment Programme
    • Internship, and
    • Short-Term Programme.

    Whether it's studying at a partner university, conducting research at a renowned institution, interning at a multinational company, or participating in a short-term program, students have various options to choose from based on their interests and goals.

    These mobility programs provide students with a global perspective and help them develop cross-cultural communication skills.

    HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN EXCHANGE PROGRAMME?

    To apply for an exchange programme, you will need to fill out two application forms:

    These forms must be approved by the Dean of your school. Once approved, you can submit the forms either via email or at the IO Office to Madam Nurfarahain.

    It is important to ensure that all the required information are accurately filled out and that you meet the application deadlines for the exchange programme.

    To find the partner universities for the mobility program at USM, you can visit the IO website. Under the mobility program section, you will find a list of partnerships with various universities.

    WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR CREDIT TRANSFERS?

    To ensure a smooth credit transfer process, it is necessary to obtain an official transcript from the partner university.

    (In cases where the original copy of the transcript is not sent directly to IO, it is recommended to reach out to the coordinator at the university via email.)

    IO will then contact students who have returned from the exchange program to schedule a discussion regarding the credit transfer.

    Following this discussion, the credit transfer letter will be processed accordingly.

    It is crucial to adhere to these steps to facilitate a successful credit transfer and ensure accurate documentation of academic achievements.

    CAN PHD STUDENTS GO FOR AN EXCHANGE PROGRAMME?

    Any postgraduate students can apply for an exchange programme.

    It is recommended for PhD students to consult with their advisors or IO to explore available exchange opportunities and understand the procedures and requirements for participation.
